This workshop is all about Gesture in Figure Drawing! You’ll learn how to begin a drawing, how to see and draw forms within a figure, capture symmetry and proportions through measuring. Lastly, learn how to shade and render according to light study. Our mediums: graphite and charcoal. Our goal is for you to walk away with three or more finished pieces and lots of beautiful studies.

My personal style is a contemporary approach to line study and gesture - it’s what comes naturally to me, but I encourage my students to experiment and work in developing their own style.

OUTLINE and WHAT YOU NEED:

Week 1 & 2: - Graphite pencils (a set or 2H, HB, 2B, 6B), drawing paper, newsprint pad 18x24 , proportional divider, eraser, sharpener, blending stick.

Week 3 & 4: - Charcoal ( willow, compressed or pencil), white charcoal stick or white pastel pencil, white or toned drawing paper (tan or gray), graphite pencils, eraser, oil or acrylic brush (for blending).

Week 5 & 6: - Charcoal, white or toned drawing paper, eraser (tombow monozero 2.3), graphite pencils .

Optional supplies: thin sketch paper such as bond paper for initial drawings, masking tape, charcoal or graphite powder.
